Fraternity honors military and public service

“Gaming and technology fraternity honors military and public service. Call for community to unite for sake of our youth. Technology is a tool to reach youth”

 Hero's Call of Duty

On Saturday August 1st, 2009, Delta Beta Lambda Fraternity Inc hosted its “Hero’s Call of Duty” tribute to public servants and military at the DBL Frat House in Spartanburg SC.  This event was streamed live to the web via www.360igame.com and www.letkidsplaygames.com. The ceremony officially began with a both enlightening and riveting invocation from local clergy, Bishop Catheye Jones. Following the invocation Mr. Eric Whiteside, National President of Delta Beta Lambda Fraternity Inc. (DBL), gave a very open heartwarming address.

Mr. Whiteside tailored pieces of his address to reflect both the individual and collective efforts of each of the honorees. His address also called for others to become invested in the community and offered a reminder that the children are our future and technology is the way. At the end of his address Mr. Whiteside dedicated the use of the DBL Frat House to the families of local military as a location to correspond via email with loved ones serving overseas.

This dedication was consummated by Sgt. Jones, of the United States Marine Corp, cutting the ribbon and accepting a certificate of appreciation. A certificate of appreciation was also presented to the Spartanburg Co. Sheriff’s Department. There was an ever present aura of unity and community pride during the tribute. This could be seen in the smiles, hugs, and laughter exchanged by various members of the community and local youth that attended.

Members of the local police and military were observed actively engaging local youth. Sgt. Steve Wilson of the Spartanburg Co. Sheriff’s Department and some of his men took the time to play video games and take pictures with youth.

DBL members took time to share with youth where they came from as individuals and also provided words of encouragement and support. This event fell under Delta Beta Lambda Fraternity’s “Let Kids Play Games” campaign umbrella.
