“Gaming and technology fraternity to host yard sale in support of its community efforts.
Must bridge technology divide in order to provide youth a fair chance in today’s economic and social climate.”

On Saturday August 15, 2009 Delta
Beta Lambda Fraternity Inc. will host a yard sale at its DBL Frathouse in
Spartanburg ,SC to support and raise awareness of its mission to provide
technology access to “depritech” youth and their families. The term “depritech”
was created by Delta Beta Lambda Fraternity Inc. (DBL) to describe those
individuals denied access to technology.
This yard sale will be held in conjunction with DBL’s “Let Kids Play
Games” campaign. The “Let Kids play Games” campaign is an ongoing campaign that
aims to increase positive self- esteem, promote leisure awareness, and create
positive peer cultures for youth through video gaming. DBL fraternity has been
increasingly active in the community as of late promoting this campaign and
supporting other various community initiatives.
On August 1, 2009 DBL held its “Hero’s Call of Duty” tribute for public service and military. At this event Mr. Eric Whiteside, National President and Founder of DBL, challenged members of the community to unite and become active in community initiatives. The group has also formed its DBL C.A.R.E teams which pairs youth with local police, military and other community leaders to create non-invasive mentorship opportunities. In relations to the yard sale and other community events Mr. Eric Whiteside was quoted “ We must bridge the technology divide in order to provide our youth a fair chance in today’s economic and social climate. We cannot allow our children to be caught off guard like our parents, friends, and loved ones were when the manufacturing industry took a hit. We must take a stand now, we can’t fail, we just can’t!” For more information on this event and other DBL sponsored activities go to www.letkidsplaygames.com.
